Long Service Medals Awarded

Article from the County Express in 1956 - select the image to see a larger viewTwo women employees, Mrs. E. Cartwright and Mrs N. Coleman, of Harris and Pearson Ltd. were presented with long service medals in 1956 after completing more than 50 years each with the Company.

It was the practice for the Institute of Clayworkers to present medals to male employees who had completed 50 years in the firebrick industry. However, it was possible that this was the first time that women had received such awards.

The photograph shown here is of Mrs. Cartwright with her husband Mr. R.E. Cartwright who had also completed 50 years service.

This article and photographs have been reproduced here with the kind permission of M. Billingham and M. J. Lloyd, neice and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cartwright.
